Doctors Without Borders

The little shelters they had set up shocked me. They seemed like they were fit to hold two people but the guide said 2 families usually stay in them. And it is really sad that security is so bad that outsiders break in and rape the women.

If I could improve something I would make the shelters bigger. They are made of cheap materials so it would not cost that much. The people need it. I would also put more money towards security. If people from other tribes can actually break into the camp that is supposed to keep people safe and rape women, there needs to be change.

2008 Election Results/reaction

I'm very excited Obama won. I know change won't happen immediately it will take time but i am excited to see what he does. Everything feels fresh. This election brought a lot of people together and it had a big turn out with the large number of people that voted. Bush dug the country into a pretty deep hole and I think a lot of people are happy for this new start.

Why Is this election important?

I don't know all of the reasons but one I think is that if Obama were to be elected he would be our first Black president. Obama has also been campaigning to a younger demographic and many of the issues this election apply a little more to young people as well. Many of these issues also affect the future of the country and young people are the future so there will just be a lot more people voting this year.

Issues

Energy - There are far too many conflicts being caused because how much we rely on oil. There are so many resources we could use around us that could benefit us in many ways in the future. We wouldn't have to meddle in the Middle East, gas prices would go down, and if we use the right resources, it will be good for the environment.

Healthcare - People shouldn't have to pay money for when they get sick. Many people can't afford to anyway. So, why not put money towards making it universal and just not fund other dumb things like the war.

Marriage - Even though the ban on gay marriage doesn't affect me personally, I cannot stand to see discrimination like this. This is not what America is about.

My Party

I don't really know that much about issues so I don't think I would be able to start a political party. I could say however that some of the beliefs the party would have is equal rights (meaning same-sex marriage would be legal), universal healthcare (because people should be treated equally and not have to pay if they fall ill), and have education as a priority along with healthcare.

Government in daily life

I thought the best example of goverment in every day life are road signs. Whether or not people listen to what they say, the signs are always there and they always see them right there by the road. The state governement has a requirement they think is necessary for safety and they have signs everywhere with those requirements on them every few yards.

Would I Vote?

I would definitely vote in this election if I was going to be 18. I mean why not? People make a way bigger deal about it than it really is. You drive for MAYBE five minutes to your nearest booth and you spend like 10 minutes there filling out nothing but your opinion. Can I be anymore clear? And plus if I am putting my say in something, even if it is just one little vote, that's amazing. Yes. Go voting.

What is an American?

America is special in the way that it is a country completely made up of people and cultures from around the world. This makes the term difficult to define but, I consider anybody who lives here and believes in the principles of the country American. You don't even have to agree with some policies put forth by the government or anything like that because that's what being an American is all about--being able to express your own thoughts and opinions.

PSA's

I chose this PSA as an example of something not to do. First of all, it was too long for how boring it was. It was this slow moving slideshow of pictures that looked like a fourth grader did it. I did not in any way have an interest to keep watching. And due to the fact that it was just pictures (boring ones at that) it did not get the point across very well at all. I actually feel less likely to vote now that I have watched this.
